Phenomenon - Magnet

Phenomenon- the artist created this piece for the 4x5 Chicagoland Art Show while in her AP Studio Art class. The inspiration is the feeling one gets when they listen to music. During a cappella, she would do a warmup called a sound circle where she and her peers would gather in a circle and close their eyes while someone began with a melody or beat. Then slowly they all added on and create some sort of song while they kept their eyes closed, and they slowly let the song die out. During the sound circles, while the artist was closing her eyes, she would subconsciously start visualizing colors and textures that felt like the song the class created. The first time she did the sound circle, she saw the color orange and a swirly, smooth texture while closing her eyes.
This piece got its name Phenomenon because of her experience of synesthesia, specifically chromesthesia.
Synesthesia is a condition where you experience cross-sensory through linking senses or cognitive pathways. Chromesthesia is perceiving colors from sounds.
